Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik, Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO), presented certificates related to the work carried out to protect and restore historical and cultural heritage in Karabakh, APA reports.
The certificates were presented in connection with the inclusion of the Aghdam Imarat Historical and Architectural Museum Complex and the Shusha State Historical and Architectural Reserve in ICESCO's Islamic World Heritage List.
The certificates were presented to Emin Huseynov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Aghdam, Fuzuli and Khojavand districts, within the framework of the 7th World Forum on Intercultural Dialogue held in Baku.
In his speech, Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik spoke about the visits made by ICESCO delegations to the liberated territories.
He stated that an ICESCO delegation first visited Karabakh in 2020. At that time, warnings were issued about the danger of landmines in the territories, and the delegation witnessed the large-scale destruction caused by the occupation in the region.
"During our first visit, we witnessed a very sad scene. We saw extensive destruction and observed the enormous tasks facing the government in this regard," the ICESCO Director-General said.
Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik noted that an international mission was established with the participation of experts from various countries. The mission, which included representatives from France, Germany, Colombia and other countries, conducted research in five areas of Karabakh and prepared a report.
According to him, the same mission later visited the region for a second time and prepared a new report.
"The same mission returned again and prepared a second report. This report was presented to the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Mr. Ilham Aliyev," Salim bin Mohammed AlMalik emphasized.
The ICESCO Director-General stated that the organization highly appreciates the work carried out to protect historical and cultural heritage in Karabakh.
He added that the documents prepared by the organization are important in terms of presenting a position at the international level regarding the condition of historical heritage in Karabakh.
