"Türkiye submitted its two-year transparency report, and today we will also announce our long-term goal of '2053 net-zero emissions,'" Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanization, and Climate Change of Türkiye, Fatma Varank told APA.
"First, I would like to express our satisfaction with being in a friendly and brotherly country like Azerbaijan. When it was announced last year that Azerbaijan would host COP, we were among the first countries to congratulate. Climate action is a challenging and dynamic process. These are really indeed significant efforts both for us and the world. At COP29, Azerbaijan has begun working on addressing adequate financing issues. Türkiye has supported Azerbaijan throughout the year and always will. I hope COP29 will be successful. The decisions made here will benefit our world. If we manage to keep global warming at 1.5°C, we can pass down a livable world to future generations," she said.
Fatma Varank also noted that Türkiye’s main focus is its targets in the energy and agriculture sectors: "Today, we will announce our targets in these areas. Significant progress has been made especially in renewable energy efficiency. Türkiye is one of the rare countries conducting substantial work in urban planning. As you know, we are in a seismic zone and have experienced major earthquakes. For us, this also means constructing buildings with energy efficiency. At COP29, we will share our two-year experiences. We will also hold an event on energy efficiency in buildings constructed after earthquakes. These are our main objectives."
"We will also have initiatives related to digitalization. We will also present it at COP29. As you know, carbon emissions can significantly be reduced with the help of digitalization. Over the past five years, Türkiye has made great strides in this area. A new law was adopted, and with it, all government operations were digitalized, and we're doing this in partnership with the private sector," she stated.
