An event dedicated to the initiatives put forward by Azerbaijan under its COP29 Presidency was held in Romania, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania told APA.

On November 5, a roundtable titled "COP29: Initiatives and Challenges for a Green Future under Azerbaijan's Presidency," was held in one of Romania’s leading universities, the Romanian-American University, which has an enrollment of five thousand students.

The event was organized jointly by the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Romania and the Romanian-American University.

University leadership, representatives from Romanian think tanks, and both international and local students participated in the event.

The university's rector, Professor Costel Negricea, opened the event, emphasizing the importance of holding an event dedicated to Azerbaijan's COP29 Presidency in the educational institution he leads, highlighting that this is crucial for fostering dialogue between the academic community and government institutions, and to inform about the event. Negricea also spoke about the university’s involvement in scientific projects directed to climate change and its consequences, protecting the ecology of our planet.

Ambassador Gudsi Osmanov briefed attendees on Azerbaijan's strategic goals, approaches, and priorities within COP29, including its collaboration with global companies in renewable energy projects in the field of green energy and the prospects of the "Caspian Sea-European Union Green Energy Corridor". The diplomat also highlighted the initiatives by Azerbaijan that will bring innovation to the COP process, and provided extensive information about the creation of the Climate Finance Action Fund (CFAF), the Global Ceasefire Call and other initiatives. He urged young people to take greater responsibility in preserving nature and the environment.

The President of Romanian Association for Sustainable Fuels, Vlad Stoicescu, spoke about the problem of climate change behind natural disasters worldwide, particularly in Europe, highlighting the essence of Azerbaijan's initiatives. He assessed Azerbaijan's involvement in alternative hydrogen and green energy projects as a gas-producing and supplying country as a model step for all the region countries. Stoicescu emphasized the importance of taking global steps towards reducing traditional resources used by mankind in energy production, and the importance of discussions of environmental problems by world leaders at platforms such as COP29.

Ioana Vasiliu, a researcher from Romania's leading energy think tank, Energy Policy Group (EPG), shared plans for representatives from Romanian non-governmental organizations to participate in COP29. She emphasized that combating climate change is one of the priority areas of action for Romania, noting the contributions of both government and non-government entities to the field of ecology.

The event received extensive coverage in local media.
