"Earth observation could potentially play a critical role in monitoring the emissions of short-lived climate pollutants," the Chair of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) Sir Jim Skea said during the plenary session on Earth Information Day 2024 at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, APA reports.
He stated that a Methodology Report on short-lived climate pollutants will be prepared by the end of 2027: "This report will cover substances such as nitrogen oxides, carbon monoxide, non-methane volatile organic compounds, sulfur dioxide, ammonia, black carbon, organic carbon, and primary dust particles, with the exception of methane. The Methodology Report will be developed in the context of recent advancements in atmospheric composition observations, including surface observations and airborne campaigns. A mandate was given by the Panel to prepare a Methodology Report. This should be finalized by the end of 2027."
