Washington –APA. “There will be monitors of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, that will go in now to make sure that the ceasefire is working. And I think the European Union is likely to be one of the lead elements along with others, but that’s for future negotiations”, said US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, APA reports quoting Georgia-Online. “I don’t think it’s good to speculate about what role the United States might play. Generally, this is a role that has been played by the OSCE and by the European Union”. Rice reacted to the opinions about the Georgia’s hope for US military assistance. “I don’t think anybody had an expectation that the United States was going to use military force in this conflict. But we need to keep the focus on the culprit here, and the culprit here is that Russia overreached, used disproportionate force against a small neighbor, and is now paying the price for that, because Russia’s reputation as a potential partner in international institutions, diplomatic, political, security, economic is frankly in tatters”, Rice told NBC’s Meet the Press in a live interview.
