Condoleezza Rice: EU and OSCE must monitor peacekeeping operations in Georgia

Washington â€“APA. â€œThere will be monitors of the Organization of Security and Cooperation in Europe, the OSCE, that will go in now to make sure that the ceasefire is working. And I think the European Union is likely to be one of the lead elements along with others, but thatâ€™s for future negotiationsâ€, said US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, APA reports quoting Georgia-Online. â€œI donâ€™t think itâ€™s good to speculate about what role the United States might play. Generally, this is a role that has been played by the OSCE and by the European Unionâ€. Rice reacted to the opinions about the Georgiaâ€™s hope for US military assistance. â€œI donâ€™t think anybody had an expectation that the United States was going to use military force in this conflict. But we need to keep the focus on the culprit here, and the culprit here is that Russia overreached, used disproportionate force against a small neighbor, and is now paying the price for that, because Russiaâ€™s reputation as a potential partner in international institutions, diplomatic, political, security, economic is frankly in tattersâ€, Rice told NBC’s Meet the Press in a live interview.
