Bucharest – APA. The Romanian Foreign Ministry confirmed on Friday that it delivered arms to Georgia but in compliance with international arms conventions.
Bucharest was reacting to accusations by Sergey Bagapsh, president of the Georgian breakaway region of Abkhazia, that illegal shipments of arms are being used by Georgian regular forces.
The Romanian Foreign Ministry asserted that arms and ammunition had been delivered to the Georgian infantry in accordance with international arms agreements, including the European Union’s code of conduct on arms exports.
Georgia isn’t under an arms embargo.
A statement by Bagapsh on Thursday said his troops in the Kodori Pass area had discovered large quantities of weapons of US and Romanian origin.
