Georgian parliamentary committees support President Mikhail Saakashviliâ€™s initiative to leave CIS

Tbilisi-APA. Four committees of the Georgian Parliament supported President Mikhail Saakashviliâ€™s initiative to leave CIS. Deputy Foreign Minister Giga Bokeria read the Presidentâ€™s address at the joint meeting of the parliamentary committees, APA reports quoting Georgia Online website. Bokeria said it meant Georgiaâ€™s leaving the December 8, 1991 CIS basic treaty, CIS Charter and CIS economic treaty. â€œOther agreements will remain in force for the present. There are 700 documents Georgia signed except these three documents, but those have no relations to Georgiaâ€™s staying within CIS. Those documents regulate economic relations between CIS countriesâ€. The presidentâ€™s address can be responded within 12 months. Regarding the current situation in the country, Georgia can leave CIS in short time. The Presidentâ€™s address for leaving CIS can be discussed and approved at the Parliamentâ€™s Thursday meeting. Mikhail Saakashvili will sign the document immediately if the Parliament approves it.
