The oldest member of the Georgian Dream Ivane Kiguradze chaired the session. Along with David Usupashvili, former speaker of the parliament David Bakrazde, parliamentarians from the Georgian Dream David Sagvarelidze, Koba Davitashvili and parliamentarian from the United National Movement Zakariya Kurtsinashvili addressed the parliament as candidates for parliament chairmanship. Manana Kobakhidze from the Georgian Dream has been elected as the first vice-speaker of the parliament, Zviad Dzidguri, Zurab Abashidze, Murman Dumbadze from the Georgian Dream and Giorgi Baramidze from the United National Movement were elected as vice-speakers.

Following this, chairmen of the parliament’s factions and committees were elected.

The first session of the Georgian parliament of the 8th convocation started in Kutaisi on October 21.

APA’s correspondent sent to Kutaisi to cover the first meeting of the Georgian parliament reports that under the Constitution, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili opened the first meeting of the parliament .

President called the new parliament building in Kutaisi the symbol of Georgia.
"We are not enemies. We should give the people what they want. The government representatives, who are becoming opposition now, will likely work together with the present government. We should work together. We should work together to solve the problems concerning healthcare, unemployment, Euro-Atlantic integration", he said.

Following this, chairman of the Central Election Commission Zurab Kharatishvili declared the list of the parliamentarians elected from the Georgian Dream and United National Movement.

The oldest member of the Georgian Dream Ivane Kiguradze will chair the first session until the speaker of the parliament is elected. The speaker, his deputies, chairmen of other factions and committees will be elected today.

85 parliamentarians are from the Georgian Dream, 65 from the United National Movement.

Along with President Mikheil Saakashvili, Catholicos-Patriarch of All Georgia Ilia II, leader of the Georgian Dream, nominee for Prime Minister Bidzina Ivanishvili, officials of the present government, representatives of the diplomatic missions accredited in Georgia and guests are attending the first session of the parliament.
