Putin vows tough measures against terrorists

Baku-APA. Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday urged the anti-terrorism forces to work "daringly and actively" to prevent possible terror attacks, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

According to the president, the Russian anti-terrorism forces have detained 479 militants and killed 313 "in the last few months," including 43 warlords among those killed.

"We must work decisively in future too. Our services have started working more efficiently, but at the same time we pay a high price for every mistake," Putin told a meeting with participants of anti-terror operations.

He urged the anti-terror units to work "daringly and actively" to destroy bandits, criminals and terrorists, adding that "it is necessary to suppress the terrorism infrastructure."

Meanwhile, Putin set a task for the special units -- to prevent terror attacks during large international sport events to be held in Russia in next few years. The president called this task "a matter of honor" for the law enforcement agencies.

Russia is to host the 2014 Winter Olympic Games in Sochi and the 2018 World Cup.

Russia has been plagued by terror attacks for years, many of which originate from the Caucasus region.

Violence is common in the North Caucasus republics of Chechnya, Dagestan and Ingushetia, with militants frequently mounting attacks against police officers and authorities.
