Baku-APA. Belarussian President Alexander Lukashenko said the European Union (EU) was attempting to make a mess of his country, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"Belarus-EU relations are an endless example of EU attempts to turn upside down not only the history but also our country. Sometimes they make totally ungrounded claims based on double standards," Lukashenko told the Mir television and radio broadcaster on Sunday.

The president stressed the EU had kept criticizing Belarus, using double standards.

Speaking about the assessment of Belarus’ September parliamentary election by Western observers, Lukashenko said he recently came across a document recording the consultations EU officials and politicians held after the election.

"Here is a quote: as not a single opposition member won the parliamentary election, the Belarussian election was not democratic," Lukashenko said. "That is absurd!"

Concerning the country’s way toward the World Trade Organization, Lukashenko said Belarus was facing a political fence.
