Israeli air strikes in Lebanon have killed at least 254 people and injured a further 1,165, according to the country’s Civil Defence authority, as violence escalates despite a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran.

The developments come after Washington confirmed that Lebanon was not included in the truce with Tehran, raising concerns about a widening gap between diplomatic efforts and realities on the ground.

Earlier on Wednesday, Lebanon’s health ministry reported that at least 112 people had been killed and 837 injured in what it described as one of the most extensive waves of attacks since hostilities began with Hezbollah.

The strikes targeted multiple areas across the country, including the capital, Beirut. Officials did not specify how many of the casualties were civilians or combatants, and warned that the figures were likely to rise.

Lebanon’s health minister, Rakan Nassereddine, said earlier that hundreds had been killed in attacks across different regions, underlining the scale of the escalation.

In the southern cities of Tyre and Sidon, at least eight people were reported killed in earlier strikes. Residents in targeted areas had been warned by the Israeli military to evacuate ahead of the bombardment.

The expanding offensive has displaced an estimated 1.2 million people across Lebanon, according to local authorities, compounding an already severe humanitarian situation.

The latest escalation highlights the fragile nature of the ceasefire between Washington and Tehran, with regional actors continuing military operations outside the framework of the agreement. Analysts warn that unless broader arrangements are reached, the conflict risks further spillover across the Middle East.
