Iran’s foreign ministry said on Monday that the country’s armed forces launched retaliatory strikes on US military bases as an act of self-defense following a US strike on Larak Island, Iran International reports.
The ministry said the US strike on Sunday evening killed several military personnel and civilians, wounded several others and caused extensive property damage.
It said Iran’s forces subsequently carried out “defensive and deterrent strikes” against US bases involved in or supporting the attack.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran will not hesitate to exercise its inherent right to legitimate defense and will respond decisively to every military aggression by the enemy,” it said.
The ministry added that Washington bore full responsibility for the consequences of the strike, its naval blockade and what Tehran calls an economic war. It also warned that countries assisting US operations would share responsibility.
