The deputy commander of Hamas’s Gaza City Brigade was killed in an Israeli airstrike in the Gaza Strip this week, the IDF confirms, The Times of Israel reports.
Imad Aslim was killed in a strike on Wednesday, and a funeral was held for him in Gaza City on Thursday.
The IDF says Aslim was the deputy commander of the Gaza City Brigade and also the commander of the brigade’s Zeitoun Battalion.
Aslim commanded the battalion during the October 7, 2023, onslaught, when its participants attacked Israel, and recently, he worked to advance attacks on troops, “and therefore he was an immediate threat,” the military says.
Izz ad-Din Beck, the commander of Hamas’s Northern Gaza Brigade, was also thought to be present at the site that was targeted in the strike. However, the military says “the results of the elimination are under review.”
