Baku-APA. Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko have called for the expansion of ties between Tehran and Minsk, APA reports quoting Press TV.

Salehi met with Lukashenko in the Belarusian capital on Tuesday and voiced Iran’s eagerness to bolster interactions with Belarus.

“Iran can be a trustworthy friend and partner for Belarus in political, economic, and developmental cooperation,” Salehi said.

During the meeting, Salehi also delivered a message of invitation to Lukashenko from Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.

In the message, Ahmadinejad has invited the Belarusian president to visit Tehran and attend the upcoming summit of Non-Aligned Movement in the country.

Lukashenko welcomed Ahmadinejad’s message.

He also said he was certain that the Iranian authorities were working “to improve life and enhance stability” in the Islamic Republic.

During his stay in Minsk, the Iranian foreign minister also held meetings with Belarusian Prime Minister Mikhail Myasnikovich and some other senior Belarusian officials.

Salehi left Tehran for Minsk on Monday afternoon to hold talks with Belarusian officials on the issues of mutual interest.

Bilateral trade between Iran and Belarus has significantly expanded as the two countries have been cooperating in many areas, including in technical and engineering projects.
