The European Commission has decided to introduce Autonomous Trade Measures for a number of products exported from Armenia, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said at a government meeting, APA reports.
According to him, the initiative will cover approximately 80% of Armenia's potential exports and will allow part of the country's products to be exported to the European Union without customs duties.
“The tariff-free export regime will apply to approximately 99% of agricultural products, as well as around 90% of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. The final list of products has not yet been finalized,” Pashinyan said.
The Prime Minister noted that for the decision to enter into force, it must be approved by the European Union member states, and the European Parliament must also adopt the relevant decision, a process that will take some time.
“At the political level, the issue has been resolved in principle. Now we need to work with the private sector to make the most of the opportunities created,” Pashinyan added.
