Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said it is impossible for the country to abandon its rapprochement with the European Union and choose a course of integration with the Eurasian Economic Union, as it did in 2013, News Armenia reports.
Responding to a journalist's question, Pashinyan said:
“My short and clear answer to the question of whether I rule out a repetition of the situation in 2013, when Armenia, within one or two nights, abandoned the already agreed process of signing the Association Agreement with the European Union and decided to move toward the Eurasian Economic Union or the Customs Union, is yes, I rule it out. It is impossible. Especially now, when the people of Armenia have clearly expressed their support for the policy pursued by the republic, including its balanced foreign policy course,” he noted.
Pashinyan stressed that Armenia has no intention of creating a crisis in its relations with Russia.
“As we have stated before, we have never sought, do not seek now, and will not seek in the future to create a crisis in relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Russian Federation. We act within the framework of our country's interests and do not overlook the interests of any of our international partners. At the same time, however, the interests of no partner can take precedence over the interests of the Republic of Armenia. I believe this is a logical approach for any country,” the Prime Minister added.
