Baku-APA. At least seven bodies were recovered after a ferry with over 50 passengers on board capsized in Sitalakhya River in Bangladesh’s Narayanganj district, some 17 km southeast of the capital Dhaka, on Wednesday evening, an official said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

"We’ve so far recovered seven bodies from the sunken ferry," Sheikh Md Mizanur Rahman, a senior fire brigade official, told Xinhua.

The ferry capsized at around 7 p.m. local time after being struck by an oil tanker, he said.

Rahman said many passengers were able to swim ashore after the accident. "But dozens of people remain missing."

Ferry is a key means of transport in the South Asian country which is criss-crossed by about 250 rivers.
