Commission: Azerbaijan continues efforts to increase international attention to missing persons issue

"The Azerbaijani state continues its efforts to increase the international community's attention to the issue of missing persons," Deputy Chief of the State Security Service, Sharafat Hasanov, said at the international conference titled "Modern Approaches and Strengthening Cooperation in Resolving the Issue of Missing Persons," held within the framework of cooperation with the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), APA reports.

He noted that since 2023, Azerbaijan has been hosting international events dedicated to the issue of missing persons.

"A new international conference dedicated to the issue of missing persons is also planned to be held in October this year within the framework of the Baku Dialogue.

I would particularly like to note that the final documents of the international conferences held in Azerbaijan in 2024 and 2025 were circulated as official documents of the UN General Assembly and the UN Security Council. This reflects the value that UN bodies attach to Azerbaijan's attention to the issue of missing persons.

We believe that the discussions to be held within the framework of the current conference will also contribute to strengthening international cooperation in resolving the issue of missing persons.

Undoubtedly, as an international organization specializing in the search for and identification of missing persons, the ICMP plays an important role. We hope that well-considered, purposeful, and sustainable cooperation with this organization will open up new opportunities for clarifying the fate of our missing citizens.

At the same time, alongside effective cooperation with international organizations, we believe that through the joint efforts of the relevant state bodies represented in the State Commission, we can successfully accomplish the extensive tasks ahead and ensure the timely and effective implementation of the instructions given by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in this field," he said.
