Baku-APA. Clashes between policemen and thousands of anti-government protesters flared in Yemen’s Red Sea province of al-Hodayda on Thursday, leaving at least 18 protesters injured, witnesses said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The clashes erupted after the policemen fired into the air to disperse protesters demanding the establishment of a transitional presidential council to rule the country in downtown al-Hodayda city, leaving 18 protesters injured by batons, said the witnesses.

Yemen has faced anti-government protests since February, triggering clashes between Saleh’s supporters and demonstrators across the country’s major cities, including the capital Sanaa, which left hundreds of people killed.

President Ali Abdullah Saleh was airlifted to the Saudi capital of Riyadh on June 4, a day after he was injured in a bomb attack on his presidential palace in Sanaa.
