Polad Bulbuloglu celebrates 70th jubilee

Polad Bulbuloglu (Polad Murtuza oglu Mammadov) was born to the family of USRR people’s artist Bulbul on February 4, 1945.

He first appeared on the stage in 1960, when he was 15 years old, accompanying his father on the piano. A year later, 16-year-old Polad lost his father.

After finishing the piano course at the music school, the singer and composer of future graduated from the Azerbaijan State Conservatoire (Gara Garayev’s class) in 1968.

He is the author of film music and drama performances, symphonies, symphonic poems, popular songs. In 1981, the singer also showed his talent as an actor in the film titled “Don't Be Afraid, I'm with You”.

Bulbuloglu was awarded titles of Honored Art Worker in 1973 and People's Artist of Azerbaijan in 1982.

Bulbuloglu worked as director and artistic director at Azerbaijan State Philharmonic in 1987 and was appointed the Minister of Culture of Azerbaijan in 1988. He joined the Azerbaijani Parliament in 1995 and was appointed the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to the Federation of Russia in 2006.

Polad Bulbuloglu was married twice. His first wife was famous opera singer Bela Rudenko, the daughter of Roman Rudenko, the Procurator General of the Soviet Union. Bela Rudenko was awarded the title of People’s Artist of the USRR at the age of 27. From the marriage surviving 12 years, the couple had a son called Teymur.

Polad Bulbuloglu’s second wife is Gulnara Shikhaliyeva. They have two children – Leyla and Murtuza.

On 3 February 2015, Polad Bulbuloglu was awarded with Sharaf (Honor) order for his long-term fruitful work in cultural and socio-political life of Azerbaijan.

The Heydar Aliyev Palace will host a jubilee concert for Polad Bulbuloglu on Feb.4.
