American Academy of Motion Pictures and Sciences extends Oscar nominee list

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced that there will be 10 nominees in the best picture category in the upcoming Oscar race, said in the Academyâ€™s press release on Thursday, APA reports quoting RIA-Novosty. The Academy decided to double the number of best picture nominees.
The Academy President Sid Ganis said 65 years later the Academy back to its history. â€œThere will be 10 best picture nominees. But not since Casablanca won the top prize in 1943 did the Academy nominate more than 5 films in that categoryâ€.
It will give a chance to the documentaries, foreign films and animations to win.
Oscar 2009 presentation ceremony will take place on May 7, 2010 in Kodak Theater in Los Angeles. The nominees will be submitted to jury on December 28, 2009.
The voting will be finished on January 23, 2010 and list of nominees will be announced on February 2, 2009.
