The US Defense Department has not received any orders to dispatch a hospital ship to provide medical assistance to Greenlanders, contradicting President Donald Trump's claims that such a ship is already on its way, APA reports citing Wall Street Journal.
According to her, the US has two hospital ships, the Comfort and the Mercy, both currently docked in Alaska. Comfort is undergoing repairs, which are expected to be completed in April. Mercy has been undergoing a year-long maintenance program since July 2025.
The publication also points out that if the vessel had been sent, Washington would have had to request permission for assistance from Danish authorities; without it, the American vessel would not have been able to dock in Greenland.
On Saturday, Trump announced that the United States would send a hospital ship to the shores of Greenland to provide medical assistance to local residents, with the American leader stating that the ship was "already on its way." Danish and Greenlandic authorities rejected the White House's initiative.
