Following the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling invalidating tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, the White House is contemplating new national security tariffs on six industries, the Wall Street Journal, citing people with the knowledge of the matter, reported, APA reports.

These may include large batteries, cast iron and iron components, plastic pipelines, industrial chemicals, as well as power grid and telecom equipment. These tariffs would be imposed under Section 232 of the Trade Expansion Act of 1962, which grants the President broad authority to levy tariffs based on national security risks.

During his second term, Trump had invoked Section 232 to impose tariffs on industries such as steel, aluminum, copper, automobiles, trucks, and auto parts, which are unaffected by the latest Supreme Court ruling
