The United States has seized the tanker “Bertha,” arriving from Venezuela, in the Indian Ocean, APA reports.
According to the Pentagon, U.S. Armed Forces boarded a third sanctioned tanker in the Indian Ocean that had departed from the Caribbean and was being tracked as part of efforts to curb illicit oil trade linked to Venezuela.
In a statement, the Pentagon said the vessel was intercepted in order to prevent illegal oil transactions associated with Venezuela.
According to the U.S. Treasury Department’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), the tanker “Bertha” operates under the flag of the Cook Islands and has been placed under U.S. sanctions due to its ties to Iran.
