During talks with his G7 counterparts, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio asked them to participate in an international mission to ensure security in the Strait of Hormuz following the war with Iran, APA reports citing Axios.
As the portal's source noted, the Secretary of State indicated that the US does not need the G7's help "in opening the strait," but would like these states to participate in an international maritime coalition after the end of military operations in the region.
"Rubio stated that the next step would be for the US to help escort ships or simply provide an international presence in the Strait of Hormuz to show the Iranians they don't control the strait. Everyone agreed with that," the Axios source said.
