If US President Donald Trump issues the relevant order, the American Armed Forces will launch new, large-scale military operations against Iran within 96 hours, two US officials told CNN, APA reports.
The sources state that the US has already deployed sufficient military forces in the Middle East region to carry out potential attacks.
It is reported that the scale of the planned operations could differ significantly from previous, limited strikes. Specifically, the US military might not limit itself this time to targeting only Iran’s radar systems, missile launchers, and other military facilities that could be restored in a short period.
"This would be a major operation," one of the US officials told CNN.
According to reports, some current and former US officials believe that it is only a matter of time before Trump issues an order to commence military operations.
In their view, such a decision could be made at any time between now and the end of the year. However, it is believed that any potential operations would likely begin after the midterm elections in the United States on November 3.
CNN notes that the Iranian military is already well-acquainted with the tactical methods employed by the U.S. military. This could make it more difficult for American forces to destroy all intended targets.
Nevertheless, U.S. Central Command and the Pentagon are compiling an extensive list of targets for potential strikes.
According to sources, this list includes Iran's energy infrastructure, military facilities, and nuclear sites.
