The United States has begun efforts to deliver "critically needed munitions of various types and other equipment" to Israel as it is fighting back Hamas's air strikes, a senior Washington official told Voice of America's National Security Correspondent Jeff Seldin on Monday, APA reports citing Teletrader.
The official said that the USS Gerald R. Ford will take Carrier Strike Group 12 to the eastern Mediterranean "very soon" to "assure allies and partners throughout the region" as well as "ensure regional stability." The move is also designed to solidify the US's support for Israel in the eyes of Iran, Hezbollah, and "any other proxy" that could seek to use "the current situation to escalate the conflict."
Commenting on Iran's involvement in Hamas's attacks, the official reaffirmed National Security Council (NSC) Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby's statement, saying that "we have no information corroborating the specifics." Still, as they noted, "Iran is in the picture."
