Police detained 34 people during a spontaneous youth protest in central The Hague, APA reports citing Hart van Nederland.
According to him, most of those detained are minors. They are suspected, among other things, of committing violent acts, illegally using fireworks, and violating the ban on wearing clothing that conceals the face.
During the clashes, protesters threw lit fireworks at police officers. One law enforcement officer was injured and taken to the hospital with suspected hearing damage. However, according to police, looting of stores and vandalism were avoided.
Bas Winkler, head of The Hague's business association, told reporters that local stores could suffer losses in the thousands of euros due to additional security measures, including boarding up shop windows with plywood and temporarily closing stores. Winkler intends to discuss with the municipality measures to respond to such threats and explore the possibility of recovering damages from those who spread calls for unauthorized protests and looting.
