Recent attacks on media representatives while filming at incident scenes, the use of physical violence against them and obstruction of their professional activities have raised serious concerns. Such actions threaten journalists' safety and also interfere with the public's right to receive information about events of public importance, APA reports, citing a statement by the Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

The statement noted that, under Article 6 of the Law of the Republic of Azerbaijan "On Media," unlawful interference with journalists' professional activities, pressure on them and their persecution are unacceptable.

"The Media and Broadcasting Council of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns acts of violence against journalists and obstruction of their lawful professional activities, expresses confidence that the incidents will be investigated promptly, comprehensively and objectively, and calls on everyone to respect the lawful activities of media representatives and their right to perform their professional duties safely, freely and without obstruction."

It should be noted that last night, APA Group employee Sanan Bahramli was dispatched to cover a fire that broke out in an area where plastic and wooden materials were stored on the premises of a disused meat processing plant on Davud Aslan Street in Baku's Nizami district.

At the scene, Heydar Sardarov, who introduced himself as the security guard of the premises, injured the journalist and damaged the company's technical equipment.
