The United States is taking control of the Strait of Hormuz, US President Donald Trump said in an interview with Fox News, APA reports.
"We are taking control of the Strait of Hormuz. They (Iran) have nothing left anymore," he said.
Trump added that the United States will continue to ensure the security of the strait.
"We will protect the strait. Most likely, we will also administer it. We will be the guardian of the strait, and when we do that, we will be compensated. We have protected this strait for 50 years and have never been paid for it. Until now, we have been doing it for free, but now we are going to make money from it," the US President stressed.
Trump also said that a meeting on the situation surrounding Iran was held on Sunday and that certain agreements had been reached. According to him, Tehran later requested amendments to those agreements.
The US President added that Washington is ready to carry out major strikes against Iran if necessary.
