New York City officials said on Wednesday they decided to ban the Chinese social media app TikTok on city-owned devices, APA reports citing Teletrader.
An unnamed official told The Verge that the NYC Cyber Command found the app "posed a security threat to the city's technical networks" and added that agencies will be given 30 days to remove TikTok from devices, while city employees will be prohibited from downloading ior using the app with immediate effect.
Several American states already banned the app on government-owned devices, while Montana introduced a state-wide ban on TikTok, which led to the company suing the state.
