Abdullah Öcalan, the imprisoned leader of the PKK terrorist organization, has been transferred to a newly constructed section of the prison on Türkiye's İmralı Island, Mithat Sancar, a member of the DEM Party's İmralı delegation, said, APA reports.
According to him, Öcalan's transfer to the new section could create an opportunity to accelerate the peace process in Türkiye.
Another DEM Party representative, Pervin Buldan, stated that the new section is located within the prison grounds and is intended to improve Öcalan's working conditions. She emphasized that the transfer does not grant Öcalan any new legal or political status.
According to Buldan, Öcalan wants to contribute to the process as a coordinator of peace and political engagement, but this status has not yet been formalized.
