A boat that entered Cuban territorial waters and opened fire did not belong to the United States Coast Guard or the United States Navy, APA reports, citing The New York Times.
According to the source, there were no US Navy vessels in the area where the shots were fired.
It is reported that the vessel in question was civilian, and its crew had planned to evacuate relatives from Cuba.
Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier reacted to the incident, stating that an investigation has been launched.
“The Cuban government cannot be trusted, and we will do everything we can to hold these communists accountable,” Uthmeier said.
Earlier, Cuba’s Ministry of the Interior stated that a boat flying the US flag had entered the country’s territorial waters and opened fire.
According to the ministry, four Americans were killed in the shooting and six others were injured.
