“Strikes on military targets in Kharg Island showed Iranians their situation and future,” US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth said at a press conference, APA reports.
“The regime’s ability to generate power was in our hands. It was in President Trump’s hands. That is why they came to the negotiating table,” he noted.
Hegseth said that Iran agreed to the ceasefire after realizing it could lose its ability to export energy: “This kind of pressure brought them to a point where they effectively said, ‘Alright, we want to make this deal.’”
