Russian hackers have been trying to break into U.S. state and local government computer networks and in two instances were successful, the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the Department of Homeland Security said Thursday, APA reports citing Reuters.
The joint alert was posted on the website of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, the cybersecurity arm of the Department of Homeland Security.
The alert comes amid heightened concern less than two weeks to go before the U.S. presidential election on Nov. 3.
