A 5.3-magnitude earthquake hit the island of Tonga, with an epicenter located about 291 kilometers south of the capital of Nuku'alofa, according to the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC), APA reports.
The tremor struck the region at a shallow depth of 10 kilometers and it remains unknown as of yet whether any casualties or damages were suffered.
This earthquake comes after a series of seismic activities hit the island nation over the past few weeks, all measuring at a magnitude larger than 5.0.
