Mubarak to address nation on Thursday - Egyptian state TV

Earlier on Thursday Egyptian TV broadcast a military council meeting on restoring order in the country that local media reported was held ahead of the president announcing his resignation.

Nearly 300 people have been killed across Egypt in protests demanding Mubarak’s resignation that began last month.

The head of Egypt’s ruling National Democratic Party, Houssam Badrawi told CNN it would be right for Mubarak to "step aside."

Egyptian authorities have taken steps towards meeting some of the protesters’ concerns in recent days, including a 15 percent rise in public sector salaries and pensions, and constitutional amendments due to be proposed by the first week of March.

Nevertheless, tens of thousands of demonstrators remain on Cairo’s Tahrir Square as protests enter their third week.
