RSSC Director Gurban Yetirmishli told APA that all reports in this regard are a tale. While disseminating specific information about the quake, its coordinates, location and other issues should also be revealed: “5.6-5.7-magnitude quake in Zagatala wasn’t felt in Baku last year. They reported that the quake occurred 18 km south-east from Zagatala in a certain depth. The forecast regarding a quake should be so. All reports about the possible quakes in Azerbaijan without any coordinates are a tale. In a case of any quake they will say that we predicted it. They are disseminating such false information to promote themselves. Self-respecting scientist or seismologist never provides such information.”

Yetirmishli noted that since the creation of human consciousness, the mankind has been trying to fight against such natural disasters up to now: “Despite the high development of science and technology, the issue of quake prediction still remains closed and will be closed in the future, because this is very complicated issue. As for the current situation of the quake focuses in Azerbaijan, at present, there is no threat of quake more than 5-6 magnitude.”

The report by the Global Earthquake Prediction Program for 2014 noted that powerful quakes will likely hit 12 regions. In this list, Azerbaijan ranks second after Iran. According to the predictions for next year, the probability of a strong quake in the north of Iran is very high. 6.3-7 magnitude quakes are expected in the north of this country – on borders with Azerbaijan. Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan rank second among the countries of threat of an earthquake. Seismologists said that there is a connection between the earthquakes in these countries. 5.8-6.5 magnitude quake is expected to hit Azerbaijan in the first half of Azerbaijan next year.
