He made the remarks at the meeting on addressing economic and social issues.
The head of state said that the work done over recent years were aimed at improving people’s social welfare, and the recent increase in pension and wages by 10 percent is a crucial step towards this goal.
“We don’t see similar steps being taken in most of the oil-rich countries affected by the sharp decline in oil prices. I have no information regarding the increase of wages and pensions in any country in the current crisis conditions,” he noted.
This is a very serious social step and it manifests our strong social policy, President Aliyev said, adding that to make this initiative a reality, hundreds of millions of manats will be expended from the state budget.
“There is no need to explain what it means in the current situation. It’s not ruled out that the issue of increasing pensions and wages will be reconsidered during this year. Of course, the issue depends on our capabilities,” the president said.
