Education Ministry: In Azerbaijan not only pupils, but teachers are sometimes absent in lessons

He said not only pupils, but teachers are sometimes absent in lessons.

“There’s a need for more extensive enlightenment in this regard. Today we have more than 4,500 schools in Azerbaijan. The Education Ministry’s resources are not enough to control all of them. Pupils’ absence in lessons is especially observed in rural schools. Getting distracted from lessons, children engage in farm work”, he stressed.

Head of the education quality assessment sector Emin Amrullayev noted that many irregularities have occurred in education this year. According to him, the ministry has listed those irregularities and is currently analyzing them.

“Sometimes one pupil is registered in two schools. In this case, the fact is investigated. Apart from that, there are some other cases as well. Some parents decide not to allow their children to go to school after they reach a particular age. If parents do not allow their children to go to school, the Ministry of Education can cooperate with law enforcement bodies in regard to this matter,” he added.
