Baku. Konul Kamilgizi – APA. On 24 October, 2013, International Conference “The valuable role of mountaineering and climbing sports for developing sustainable tourism in mountain regions of the world such as Caucasus” has started in Baku Central Park Hotel. The conference is jointly organized by IDEA Campaign, Western University, Azerbaijan Mountaineering and Extreme Sports Federations Association and Air and Extreme Sports Federation of Azerbaijan (FAIREX) on the initiative of International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA).
The conference consists of three parts. The first part of the conference is named “Sustainable Mountain Tourism: history and achievements”, the second part of the conference is named “A glance at the prospects of mountain tourism development”. The last part is devoted to biological diversity, methods and principles of protection of mountain regions.
The president of Air and Extreme sports Federation of Azerbaijan Huseyn Bagirov, project coordinator of IDEA Campaign Anara Ismayilova, the rector of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Urkhan Alekberov, deputy of mayor of Guba region Yusif Abidov, the president of UIAA Mountain Protection Commission Ms. Linda McMillan, vice-president of UIAA Peter Farkas, International Expert on Geological Research Roni Galaher and other well-known guests are taking part in this event.
Well-known international experts, representatives of local state organizations, educational institutions as well as representatives of civil community and scientists will speak on the following topics:
“The international role of UIAA in the encouragement of mountain protection”. “The historic role of mountaineers in the protection of the world’s mountain regions”. “The source of creation, development and aims of the “Mountain Protection Award”. “Conservation of the balance between mountain sports, ecotourism and environmental protection”. “The broad prospects for the development of Mountain tourism in Guba Region”. “Tourism and Environment in Highland regions”. “The potential of Shakhdakh National Park for rock climbing and ecotourism”.
The International Conference organized within the framework of the “Mountain Protection Award” program will continue its work till October 26.
It should be noted that The International Conference “The valuable role of mountaineering and climbing sports for developing sustainable tourism in mountain regions of the world such as Caucasus” is organized with the initiative of International Mountaineering and Climbing Federation (UIAA) and joint organization of IDEA Campaign, Western University, Azerbaijan Mountaineering and Extreme Sports Federations Association and Air and Extreme Sports Federation of Azerbaijan.
