Azerbaijani Ministry of Health issues order regarding Ebola virus

The press service of the Ministry told APA that according to the latest statements the death toll inflicted by the Ebola virus disease outbreak in West Africa reached 1,069. The number of people infected totaled 1,975.

 

Lethal Ebola virus was found in West African countries, including Liberia, Guinea, Nigeria and Sierra Leone in February, 2014. The disease is described as fatal illness with a case fatality rate of up to 90%. The infection is transmitted by direct contact with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people.

 

Considering the above-mentioned, a number of measures are being taken in Azerbaijan in order to strengthen preventive anti-epidemic measures and preparatory measures against Ebola virus.

 

Deputy Minister of Health, Chief State Sanitary Doctor Abbas Valibeyov signed an order in this regard. The order envisages special instructions to heads of medical departments and institutions in the cities and regions, heads of hygiene and epidemiology centers. They were instructed to take preventive measures such as creating conditions for immediate isolation of those suspected of the disease, creating inexhaustible resources of main symptomatic therapeutic agents and disinfectants, strengthening control over counter-epidemic and disinfection measures in medical institutions, strict compliance with the disinfection regime, immediately hospitalizing persons suspected of Ebola virus, contacting with customs authorities at border crossings and providing medical surveillance for citizens coming from Ebola-infected countries, raising awareness among the population and others.
