Azerbaijan tightens rules and penalties on migrants

Chairman of Law policy and state building committee Ali Huseynov said that according to the amendments, foreigners and stateless persons facing imprisonment for a term not exceeding one year or other penalties will be sentenced to forced removal from the Republic of Azerbaijan taking into account the circumstances envisaged in Article #58.3 of this Code.


The right of those facing forced removal to visit the Republic of Azerbaijan is restricted till the end or abolishment of their sentences. According to the amendments to Article #318-1 of the Criminal Code, those organizing illegal visit of foreigners and stateless persons to the Republic of Azerbaijan, their stay in the Republic of Azerbaijan, illegal transit through the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan or removal from the Republic of Azerbaijan will face AZN 2000-5000 fine, up to 2 year corrective works or up to 3-year imprisonment.


If the same act is committed by an organized group, an official by abusing his/her position, recommitted, committed in a life-threatening way, they will be deprived of the right to engage in certain activities for the term up to two years or sentenced to 2-5 year imprisonment.


The amendments were put up for discussion and adopted.
