He was commenting on reports that all the historic buildings in Sovetsky will be demolished.

“In Sovetsky there are some historic buildings on the facades of which only 3-4 white stones remained,” Sharifov said.

“By passing a decision on the relocation of an architectural building on Fuzuli street, President Ilham Aliyev showed his attitude toward the historic buildings. Relocation expenses considerably exceeded the cost of the building,” he stressed.

He went on to say that at present, in Sovetsky there are 215 houses (out of 2,745) slated for demolition, and residents of the demolished houses have already been moved.

The deputy PM said that it is no secret in what conditions Sovetsky residents lived.

“The area of some houses was 8-15 sq.m. It is obvious that the residents were paid AZN 1,500 per a square meter. Considering the area of some houses, they not only have been able to buy a house, even could not rent it. Therefore, this issue has been reported to the country’s president, who gave proper instructions,” he added.
