The Azerbaijan National NGO Forum has initiated the creation of a coalition of foreign NGOs, which are planned to participate in the 13th World Urban Forum (WUF13) to be held in Baku in 2026, APA reports.
An online meeting was organized on February 28, 2025 with NGOs from 3 countries - Switzerland, Italy, Benin, and preliminary consultations were held in this regard.
Representatives of the Italian “City Space Architecture” organization Vija Viese and Egle Pilipaviciute, who participated in the WUF12 Forum held in Cairo, Egypt in 2024, Mahak Agrawal, a representative of the “ITA-AITES” organization headquartered in Geneva, Switzerland, and Salem Ayeman, chairman of the “Future for Future” organization of the West African state of Benin, highly appreciated the initiative of Azerbaijani NGOs. The meeting exchanged experiences and foreign NGOs discussed the participation of civil society in World Urban Forums.
Ramil Iskanderli, Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, noted that the founding meeting of the WUF13 NGO Coalition will be held online in the near future. Amin Mammadov, national expert of the Azerbaijan National NGO Forum, noted that the Forum has extensive experience in working on foreign NGO platforms. The Forum established the COP29 NGO Coalition in 2024, which brought together more than 500 NGOs from nearly 100 countries, and this global network will soon be transformed into the Global South NGO Platform.
Confidence was expressed at the meeting that the WUF13 NGO Coalition can make a great contribution to the common cause.
