VI Plenary Meeting of GlobE Network concluded in Baku

The Sixth Plenary Session of the United Nations (UN) Global Operations Network (GlobE Network) Against Corruption has concluded in Baku, APA reports.

The event was dedicated to strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption and implementing new approaches.

In total, more than 120 representatives of the state institutions from 92 countries attended the session, and more than 20 panel discussions was held with over 100 speeches.

Within the framework of the event, more than 100 bilateral meetings took place between representatives of various countries, including Azerbaijan. The proposals and perspectives of the participating countries were discussed at the meetings organized to promote cooperation, exchange of experiences, and development in various fields.

In line with today’s program, presentations were made by UNODC representatives regarding the procedures for establishing Regional Offices of the GlobE Network. Additionally, a panel discussion was held on strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption. Representatives from Kuwait and UNODC highlighted the importance of international cooperation and the potential of the network by delivering speeches.

Further discussions addressed the innovative application of non-criminal solutions in investigating corruption crimes. Representatives from South Africa, Brazil, Thailand, and Vietnam spoke on the topic, emphasizing the importance of applying non-criminal solutions.

Another panel focused on raising public awareness and strengthening preventive measures against corruption. Representatives from Russia, China (Hong Kong Special Administrative Region), Haiti, Pakistan, and Nepal (online) presented extensive information on ways to increase public trust and mobilize support in the fight against corruption.

The recovery of assets and the exchange of international experiences were also discussed. Representatives from Brazil, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, and Uganda, as well as Fuad Aliyev, a representative of the Egmont Group from Azerbaijan, presented important steps and positive experiences in this area.

During the closing ceremony of the event, the Deputy Prosecutor General of the Republic of Azerbaijan Nazim Rajabov emphasized that the GlobE Network is a very important platform for strengthening international cooperation in the fight against corruption. He noting that such events ensure the exchange of experiences and the strengthening of trust between states stated that the Azerbaijani government will continue its active participation in this platform and contribute to strengthening the global fight.

At the same time, Deputy Prosecutor General of Azerbaijan Heydar Mammadov delivering a speech at the event, highlighted the country’s determination in the fight against corruption and the progress made in global cooperation. He also mentioned that Baku will host the high-level meeting of law enforcement agencies fighting corruption of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states in 2026.

Delivering speeches at the event Nasser Abaalkhail (Saudi Arabia), Chairman of the GlobE Network’s Management Committee, Boni de Moraes Soares (Brazil), Vice-Chairman, and Rozitsa Zaharieva, Coordinator of the GlobE Network thanking the participants stated that cooperation will continue to strengthen the fight against corruption.
