Armenia imported 43% of its weapons and ammunition from India between 2022 and 2024, this information is included in a report by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), APA reports citing Reuters.
The report states that between 2016 and 2018, this figure was close to zero.
Meanwhile, according to a statement from India’s Ministry of Defence, the total value of contracts for the supply of weapons and military equipment to Armenia in recent years has reached USD 600 million.
The report also highlights that India has now surpassed Russia in arms sales to Armenia.
Last year, for the first time in the history of bilateral relations, India appointed a military attaché to Armenia. Overall, India plans to increase the number of military representatives in its embassies abroad.
Another notable point in the report is India’s intention to surpass Russia in supplying military products to countries that traditionally import arms from Moscow.
