“Our support for the restoration of Karabakh is a manifestation of friendship and human solidarity,” Denis Afanasyev, Vice Governor and Chairman of the Government of Russia's Astrakhan Region, told journalists during an inspection of the construction of a preschool educational institution being built in Mahruzlu village of Azerbaijan's Gubadli district with the support of the Astrakhan regional government, APA's correspondent assigned to Gubadli reports.
According to Afanasyev, the Astrakhan Region and Azerbaijan are united by deep historical, economic, cultural, and spiritual ties.
He stated that this is why the Governor of the Astrakhan Region proposed to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to support the restoration of the liberated territories, and with the President's approval, construction of the kindergarten in Mahruzlu village began.
“This project is, first and foremost, a manifestation of humanitarian support. There are no economic interests here. What matters most to us is friendship and humanitarian support. We want the children who will attend this kindergarten in the future to remember that it was built with the participation of the Astrakhan Region and to know that we are friends of Azerbaijan and will always stand by it,” he said.
Denis Afanasyev also thanked Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev for supporting the initiative to name the kindergarten after Russian writer Pyotr Petrovich Yershov.
“This will bring future generations even closer to one another because we are united by many common spiritual, cultural, and historical values, and we must pass them on from generation to generation,” the Vice Governor of the Astrakhan Region emphasized.
He noted that the project is scheduled to be completed in August 2026.
