In Azerbaijan, it is proposed to create separate correctional facilities for individuals who commit crimes due to recklessness, this was discussed in the report of the Commissioner for Human Rights (Ombudsman) of the Republic of Azerbaijan for 2024 at the meeting of the Human Rights Committee of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) today, APA reports.
The Ombudsman, taking into account the positive experiences of foreign countries regarding individuals who have committed crimes due to negligence serving their sentences in correctional facilities with more lenient regimes, emphasized the importance of establishing separate correctional facilities for individuals who have committed crimes due to recklessness, based on a detention facility model, and legally ensuring that individuals who have committed crimes due to recklessness serve their sentences in such facilities regardless of the duration of the sentence.
