The Commissioner for Human Rights of the Republic of Azerbaijan (Ombudsman), Sabina Aliyeva, constantly focuses on the protection of the rights of victims of crimes against humanity and war crimes committed by Armenia, including missing persons and their family members, the Ombudsman's press service told APA.
It was stated that the mass graves discovered during excavations in the liberated territories once again prove the war crimes committed by Armenia: "As a result of the measures taken in this direction and the searches carried out, a number of important facts have been revealed in recent days. Thus, as a result of searches conducted on the heights that were once combat positions in the territory of the Ballıgaya village of the Aghdara district, based on the information collected by the State Commission on Prisoners of War, Missing and Hostages, and witness statements, more than 10 human remains believed to belong to Azerbaijani military personnel were discovered.
According to international humanitarian law, information about the fate of missing persons must be collected, and the rights of their relatives to know the truth and receive information must be ensured. The Ombudsman of Azerbaijan is carrying out relevant measures and fact-finding missions to obtain information about the fate of our missing compatriots, including the restoration of human rights and freedoms violated as a result of the war crimes committed by Armenia. As part of the next fact-finding mission carried out by the Ombudsman, employees of the Office, Mugalib Mahmudov and Sevinj Shener, visited the Balligaya village of the Aghdara district. A relevant investigation has been conducted, and factual materials have been collected in the village.
Based on the materials collected from the mass graves, a relevant report will be prepared by the Ombudsman on the results of the monitoring and submitted to the public and international organizations."
